GraalVM meets WebAssembly

GraalVM brings WebAssembly to the JVM with GraalWasm, an embeddable high-performance Wasm runtime, and Web Image, which compiles JVM apps to fast-starting Wasm modules. The session demos Rust and Spring Boot integration, browser/mobile/cloud use cases, workflows, limitations, and future directions.

talks.description
The JVM is one of the world’s most widely used programming platforms, yet it’s rarely mentioned in conjunction with WebAssembly—until now! GraalVM brings Wasm to the JVM ecosystem with two projects: the GraalWasm runtime, and GraalVM Web Image, a new JVM bytecode-to-Wasm compiler.

This session introduces GraalWasm, an embeddable Wasm runtime with excellent tooling and exceptional performance thanks to the optimizing Graal JIT compiler. We'll demo and debug a Rust library, compiled to Wasm, and embedded in a Spring Boot microservice.

We’ll also present GraalVM Web Image which can compile JVM applications into efficient Wasm modules that start up fast and run in the browser, on mobile, and in the cloud. We’ll explain how it works, highlight practical use cases, demo end-to-end workflows, and discuss current limitations and what’s next.

If you’re interested in bringing Wasm to the legions of independent and enterprise JVM developers who have yet to embrace it, this session is for you!
